When Sandra, met Yasmine Childs, the creative mind behind Pärlemor, it was a meeting of two worlds built on craftsmanship, intuition and a mutual love of pearls (Pärlemor means mother-of-pearl in Swedish). In this quick-fire chat, Yasmine styles her effortlessly elegant designs with pieces from our Cosmos Collection.
1. Whats been the most fun moment of running the brand so far?
YAS: Tricky! But probably seeing a design I created in my head become a real thing in the world, feeling pleased with it and come out how I imagined, and then have other random people I’ve never met before wear it, and be excited by it, that’s a pretty cool experience!
2. If Pärlemor had a scent what would it be?
YAS: Light Floral
3. If you could design one piece for any person, past or present, who would it be?
YAS: This is hard! One would be old school Rhianna. She’s had so many different types of looks and owns them all. I think I would love to create something that had a similar feel to her matching sparkle dress and head band she wore in 2014, that was such an iconic look. My other, if I can have a second, would probably be Lana Del Ray because I love her and she is giving big Pärlemor energy!
4. Sketching by hand or building digital moodboards?
YAS: By hand
5. One tool or object you can't work without in your studio?
YAS: Pen and paper! …and tape measurer. Maybe some candles too.
6. Studio playlist: upbeat or mellow?
YAS: Really depends on what I’m up to! But usually more mellow to stay focused and relaxed.
7. Perfect symmetry or organic imperfection?
YAS: Organic Imperfection.
8. When choosing fabrics, do you follow intuition, practicality or both?
YAS: Most of the time, intuition, but sometimes I have to force myself to be a little practical too.
9. Necklaces: layered or a single bold piece?
YAS: I think layering can look really great and I admire it from afar on other people, but I’m a single bold piece girl myself!
10. Which piece from the new Sandralexandra collection is your favourite to style with Pärlemor?
YAS: My favourite piece from Sandralexandra to style with Pärlemor is the Silver Orbit necklace in Orange. Firstly because I love orange, and think it always elevates a look. I also like how dainty and elegant it feels while being a statement piece. Not to mention, I am of course a sucker for a big central pearl, which obviously compliments and mirrors a lot of my Pärlemor pieces.
